Skate Park Bowl

State-Of-The-Art

The park itself is state-of-the-art and good for everyone from raw beginners to seasoned professionals. The bowls are not only a spectacular work of art, they are also as smooth as glass because of the quality of the cement finishing work. The skateboard park is well used by adults, youth and children.

Owl Walk Riverside

Village of Slocan Owl Walk

The Village of Slocan has created an interpretive Owl Walk for visitors and schools to learn about the endangered & elusive Western Screech-Owl. Trails lead beside the Slocan River giving visitors a unique peek at the owl’s spectacular riparian habitat.

Owl Walk Grand Opening

Official Opening 2015

In 2012, Wildlife Biologists approached the Village of Slocan after discovering that a section of Slocan River, just south of Slocan Lake, was prime Western Screech-Owl habitat.  Three years later, the Village partnered with the Slocan Valley Rail Trail Society to create the Owl Walk, which was officially opened in 2015.

Western Screech Owl

The Western Screech-Owl is a small, grey-brown owl with yellow eyes and feather “ear” tufts. In 2002, it was designated as Endangered by COSEWIC and red-listed throughout BC. The undammed Slocan River allows for excellent nest and roost sites. Here, black cottonwood, trembling aspen, and water birch are important for shelter, concealment, and defense of young owlets.

About The Owl Walk

The interpretive signage for this self-guided tour was funded through Columbia Basin Trust’s Environmental Initiatives Program, and provides visitors with eight educational panels listing details about the Western Screech-Owl.

Tour The Owl Walk

If you are a school or community organization we encourage you to take a field trip to the Owl Walk! The Owl Walk facilitates hands-on learning by getting students to explore riparian ecosystems up close. Our lesson plan instructs students on the biodiversity of our inland temperate rainforest and species adaptation.

SVOA Equestrian  Grounds

The SVOA grounds are located at 910 Arlington Road in the Village of Slocan. There is a concession/kitchen building, a riding arena (100’x200′), a 50′ round pen, twelve 10×10 horse pens, outhouse, water system, and lots of room for parking and equestrian-related camping, with shady picnic and tenting areas. For camping and grounds use inquiries, please contact SVOA directly.

Perimeter Fencing Project

In 2023 the club was able to achieve their long term vision for perimeter fencing around the grounds, establishing a secure and safe place for all members, horses, children and surrounding community. The perimeter fencing and gates add an extra level of safety assurance, as well as a relaxed atmosphere – and more importantly, are a safe and secure location for both livestock and people in the event of an evacuation.

Huge thanks to the Village of Slocan, RDCK, Columbia Basin Trust, Horse Council BC and the many local businesses that helped make this project possible!
